My first words

I downloaded a program to help me learn a little bit of Albanian before I leave. You can learn along with me:

tungjatjeta- hello
mirëmëngjes- good morning
mirëmbrëma- good evening
natën e mirë- good night
mirupafshim- good bye

and most importantly:

Unë nuk kuptoj- I don't understand (I think I'll be using that one a lot!)

Early morning. . .

Violence? Isn't 8am a little early to be going to blows? At least wait till I've had my coffee.

This morning I had the pleasure of dealing with my first ever in class fight. Who knows what got the two teenage boys all riled up. As the fists flew, so did I- out into the hall to get a security guard. No way in hell am I going to get in the middle of that.

Once the kids were removed from class I knew that the day could only go up from there. Only one more month as a substitute teacher.

The Amazing Race?

I'm not sure how it happened. . . between 60 minutes and trivia on Sunday night. . . nothing else on TV. . . totally addicted to the Amazing Race.

Last year's new years resolutions:
1. Be brave
2. Go to yoga classes
3. Finish my Peace Corps app.
4. Follow through
5. Get out of Denver

Progress- I finished my application, which is following through and getting out of Denver. I didn't go to yoga very much. Maybe that will still be on my resolution list.

Being brave? I quit my job before I knew if I was going to the PC. I accepted the assignment to Albania. I didn't go after any of the guys that I liked. I rationalize those actions in a lot of ways: in the second half of the year it was because I knew that I would be leaving soon. In the first half of the year I convinced myself that they wouldn't like me back or thought of another excuse not to be brave.

My resolutions for this year are pretty much the same:
1. Be brave.
2. Follow through.
3. Go to yoga classes.
4. Get out of Denver.

I think that I can do all of them. Except maybe the yoga. :)
